State officials Monday Announced That the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program has Begun for the year. The program offers low-income Seniors coupons to buy the food from a state-certified vendors.

Nebraska Department of Agriculture Director Greg Ibach said officials expect more than 5.000 Participants this year. Low-income Seniors can use the coupons at certified Farmers' markets, roadside stands and U-pick operations.

Coupons are available at Nebraska senior centers through June. Certified vendors can be found at www.agr.ne.gov or by calling (800) 422-6692.

The program is in its 11th year. Officials say the 2011 program has received more than $ 250,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
